Celebrating Marcy Huerta: 2026 Changemaker of the Year
Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas (BHS) is proud to celebrate Marcy Huerta, Program Director for Youth Prevention Universal Life Skills Training (YPU-LST), on being recognized by Recovery People as the 2026 Changemaker of the Year during Recovery Month.
While Marcy’s work is rooted in prevention rather than direct recovery services, her impact plays an important role in strengthening the substance use prevention and recovery ecosystem across South Texas. Through her leadership with YPU-LST, Marcy works with communities in rural counties, including Brooks County, helping bring prevention education, resources, and support to communities where access to behavioral health services and prevention resources can be more limited.
Recovery People describes the Changemaker of the Year as an individual who has made significant and positive change to substance use and related mental health recovery research, rights, access, policy, or the broader recovery ecosystem. Marcy’s recognition highlights the importance of the work that happens before a crisis occurs—building knowledge, strengthening protective factors, connecting communities with resources, and helping young people develop the skills they need to make healthy choices.
Her work demonstrates that prevention and recovery are connected. By investing in youth, families, and rural communities today, prevention professionals help build healthier communities and contribute to a stronger continuum of support for individuals and families affected by substance use.
Congratulations, Marcy Huerta, on being named RecoveryPeople’s 2026 Changemaker of the Year! 💜
