United Youth Group made a December to Remember

The United Youth Group, part of the UNIDAD Coalition, had a busy month in December full of activities. At the beginning of December, the Youth Group had their Family Fun Winterfest, but their involvement to increase protective factors for youth and families in our community did not end there.

Throughout the months of November and December, the United Youth Group put out a request to community members to write kindness letter for the elderly members. The United Youth Group collected about 200 letters to distribute to Silver Ribbon Community Partners. Special thanks to Boys & Girls Club of Edinburg and Pharr-San Juan, and McAllen Parks and Recreation.

In addition to the kindness letters, the United Youth Group, in collaboration with Achieve Early College High School National Honor Society, hosted a toy drive. The toys were dropped off at Driscoll Children’s in McAllen by the UNIDAD coalition coordinator, Vianca, and Youth Group members Yanely and Jannie. The toys  were collected by students from Achieve Early College, South Texas Vocational Technical Institute in McAllen, UFC GYM, and the United Youth Group and UNIDAD Coalition members.

And to wrap up the year and celebrate their successes, the United Youth Group had their end of the year wrap up celebration. They enjoyed some time as a group, working on an escape room (Home Alone themed), a cookie decoration contest, and took time to reflect on the past year and begin discussing future projects and ideas.

The UNITED Youth Group is always looking for more youth to join the group! For more information email Vianca Vieyra at Vvieyra@bhsst.org.
